He is the type of person what buys the carburetor at the first and then build everything else from his rig around it, Well, he saw my new carburettor and the only thing he had to say was.

I said nothing, would I say something, he would not stop talking for the next two hours, But no doubt he is good in Carburetors, I have never used a Truck Avenger Carburetor, what do you think,? Holley's had a reputation for being hard to make work off road. They do work well on the street once they are set up right. Joined May 11, Messages The old carb was terrible on cold starts and had a dead spot on acceleration that I was never able to cure. With cfm no cold start issues and no dead spots. Ran a little rich out of the box, but after an adjustment it was fine. Did have to set the fuel level.

Holley gives you good instructions, so this was easy and only took about 30 minutes. Haven't had it off road yet, but looking forward to trying it at angle. Fuel economy seems to be about the same. Truck does seem a bit more responsive on acceleration; which is nice.

I also run the cfm on my and it works great.

Joined: May It replaced the stock 2 bbl carb. I expected an improvement in power and response, but didn't really notice any. It doesn't run bad, just not any better. I've read that Holley customer support doesn't recommend the for V8 applications, but that wasn't the case when I bought my Now, when I go to the Holley website, I see the is recommended for 4 and 6 cyl applications. On the Summit Racing website, there is a note at the bottom of the CFM page that it is not recommended for V8 applications.

I have a need for a new carb on my '67 CJ5 and was thinking about moving the over to it and buying a new for the Bronco.

My engine is stockish to mild. Only issues I had was some of the carbs zinc coating began to flake off, and Holley sent me a new carb s. I don't really like facebook, but you do have an advantage if you have a problem because everyone can see how they handle the situation.

Forum Rules. After a few hundred miles, my first Street Avenger started cutting out and making my engine run really rough. All the tuning in the world could not correct this.

I contacted Holley for some pointers, describing my problem, and they asked me for my carb's serial number. I gave it to them, and they told me it was one of a bad batch of carbs that had a problem with the casting process for the metering plates, that literally caused them to begin to fall apart internally when fuel hit them. I popped the front bowl off and sure enough, oxidation and little chunks of metering plate floating around.

I posted about this problem a few years ago. Holley was very gracious and forthcoming about the issue, and they offered me a brand new carb and a call tag to pick up the damaged unit. Their customer service was top notch. I receive the new carb, and notice that it's an updated design over the one I had.

Even better!! I got the idle mixture and speed dialed in, and went through the process of jetting and setting the vacuum secondaries where I like them. Once dialed in, the carb was great, but I still felt like it was holding me back a little. These small changes actually made a noticeable difference in the seat of the pants feel, adding some low and mid range power.

After running like this for a little while, I stated checking plugs again.See all 6 photos. With the latest Truck Avengers from Holley, virtually any engine size from six cylinders all the way up to monster big-block V-8s can be accommodated.

All Truck Avengers, no matter the size, share the same modifications that make them work as slick in the back country as a pair of freshly-waxed skis. Special metering blocks, vent tube, and spring-loaded needle valves control fuel slosh and spillover during wacky-angle off-road maneuvers. Flooding, stalling, and hesitations are gone in climbs of up to 40 degrees while degree sidehilling and descents are possible if your truck doesn't roll first.

We've put together a few photos with installation and tuning tips for setting up a new Truck Avenger. And for the younger guys, there's no reason to be afraid of a fuel atomizer that doesn't need a PC and umpteen sensors to tune and run.

Though carburetors may be old-school to even old guys, believe us, we've used the Truck Avengers and they haven't let us down!

Don't overtighten the hardware or you run the risk of warping or cracking the carb's baseplate. Don't forget a decent return spring and check that it all operates smoothly without sticking or binding. If your original throttle cable won't reach, take a look at the universal cable kits such as those from Lokar Performance Products.

Try each one and see which gives your setup the smoothest idle and best advance performance. Don't use the distributor side of the ignition coil since it might only provide volts after the engine has started.

Check the source you choose with a voltmeter to be sure it carries 12 volts. Truck Avengers come with a screen-type filter in the fuel inlet but you should add a larger in-line filter for a little extra insurance in the dusty conditions found when wheeling. Most driveability problems come from a weak, improperly timed, or poorly adjusted ignition than from a carburetor, especially a brand-new Truck Avenger! Holley wet-flows and calibrates each carb before shipping and you will probably not need to tune them at all except for maybe setting the curb idle speed.

Turn the curb idle speed screw if necessary to keep the engine idling. Allow it to reach operating temperature and then readjust the curb idle again to get a nice slow and smooth idle. Turning the screw clockwise increases the rpm, while counterclockwise, of course, decreases rpm. Try for a final speed of about 1, rpm. By loosening the black plastic choke housing you can adjust the duration of the choke. If you want the choke to stay on longer, turn the housing counterclockwise.

Turn it clockwise to have choke operation end sooner. Using the fuel level adjuster, raise or lower the float so that the fuel level is just at the bottom edge of the window. Be sure to replace the clear plugs with the supplied brass plugs once you're done. Keeping a low fuel level is best for most off-roading.

Just be careful and don't go so far that fuel starvation happens at higher engine speeds. Most vehicles, especially heavier ones, should leave the black spring in place.

Lighter-weight 4x4s might see a performance increase by using the silver spring. Removing the two screws on the vacuum secondary cap is all that's necessary to swap springs. Turn each idle mixture screw one on each side of the primary metering block always the same amount and in the same direction clockwise to lean the mix or counterclockwise to richen it.

You'll be trying to obtain the highest vacuum reading and the smoothest idle. If you're using a tachometer and your golden ear, try for the highest idle rpm.Remember Me? What's New? I got the Truck Avenger for this The motor is mostly stock, with just an Eddel Intake. Starts right up and really runs very good, exept when I get on it and I think the secondaries open. They do move paperclip trickand things just totally bog down, loose all power. I put the heavies spring in for the secondaries and still have the same problem.

Anybody else have a clue for me? Of course Holley still hasn't got back to me for some tech help, and the store I bought it from is out of business, so I am stuck with a carb that isn't functioning right. Are you sure the bog is from too much fuel? Could be lack of fuel, try going to a very light secondary spring and see if it does the same thing. I had to use a pretty light spring in my old Holley to get it to run right. How about timing? Ignition will play a big role.

Are the vacuum and mechanical advances both working right? I'd start about degrees initial advance with about degrees total, all in by RPM. Bob tufcj. I'd second the lighter spring idea. The is a little small for the so you'll probably want to have it open up a little faster.

I'll give that a try, but it seems as trying the heavier spring made it a little better over the standard spring, but I have the lighter springs to try and see if that will make a difference.

I ran it with one new plug to see if I could read lean or rich, deffinetaly looks leak I was really laying into it so the reading would show secondary effects on plugs. Tried every secondary spring that came in the kit, no change at all. I completely disassembled this carb, and think I found the problem. Poor Craftsmanship! One of the secondary jet ports was almost completely blocked by by a little brass peace that is part of teh air vent or air emmulsion, not sure the exact terms, but it is where the fuel mixes with air before going into the throttle bores.In order to get a proper estimate, we need a little more information from you.
